NKLA, an acronym for “No Kill Los Angeles,” is an initiative of Best Friends Animal Society, whose goal is to reduce and eventually stop the killing of homeless pets in city shelters. This campaign was launched in 2012 and was designed to draw attention to the many animals euthanized each year in LA animal shelters, and at the same time provide hope that they will be saved. In January of 2018, Mayor Garcetti announced that LA reached its “no-kill” goal for dogs under the care of the Department of Animal Services.
